A painting by Colm Mac Athlaoich

My husband gave this to me for my fortieth birthday. I have followed the work of Colm for years. He’s a wonderful artist and musician and this piece is so evocative. I can’t believe I’ll have it forever.

The dog

Molly, our springer spaniel, she’s one. She comes with me everywhere: on my morning runs and to the studio.

Bird nests

Somehow these nests made it back from the States intact! We lived in Cornwall on the Hudson, a small town in the Hudson Valley for three years, before returning to Ireland last year. My daughters collected these while we were there and they conjure up very happy memories of our time there out in nature.

Our piano

My husband found our piano, free online. It’s really old and made in New York by a company called Francis Bacon. It’s beautiful, like a piece of furniture. We keep it in our hall and while I don’t really play we all try.

A painting by Margaret Egan

My parents gave this painting to me by Margaret Egan when I was twenty-one, and it’s been everywhere with me. When we lived in the States we decided to ship all our art over because we missed it so much. And then when we returned to Ireland last year we shipped it all back. It’s crazy but it makes a home. I know Margaret and love her so much as a person. She’s so incredibly talented and I never get tired of looking at it. It brings me so much joy.
